An Acoustic Tribute to Eva Cassidy featuring Lesley Curtis
Information
This acoustic tribute to the music of Eva Cassidy is a unique duo which brings you the inspirational music of Eva Cassidy. Breathtaking vocals and two acoustic guitars creates an intimate atmosphere which is ideally suited to Eva’s arrangements of classics such as Fields of Gold, Autumn Leaves, Songbird and of course, Over The Rainbow.
The Washington Post said of Eva Cassidy,
“She could sing anything
Folk, Blues, Pop, Jazz, R’n’B and Gospel and make it sound like it was the only music that mattered”.
During the show, Lesley will narrate the life of Eva Cassidy if required, giving details on how her only self-financed album, “Blues Alley” came about, and how before her tragic death she was unable to get a recording contract. World wide sales of her albums are now in excess of 5 million copies, and her Songbird CD is rarely out of the top 20 UK independent album charts.
Eva Cassidy’s arrangement of the Judy Garland classic “Over The Rainbow”, has become the definitive version and the viewers of Top of the Pop’s 2 have made it the most requested track in the television show’s history.
It was returning from one of her own shows that Lesley first heard Eva Cassidy sing. She was listening to the Bob Harris show and, like most people who have heard Eva sing for the first time, was deeply moved by her wonderful voice. Lesley says "It is a real pleasure for me to perform her songs in the way she sang them. Every time I sing one of her arrangements, it's like I'm singing it for the first time. The diversity of musical genre and the beauty of her delivery is breathtaking. I feel honoured that I am able to take part in this musical tribute to her, and share in the joy of her music".
